2009 College Football Preview
So, the majority of us look forward to the substantial games we play outside the conference, and others look forward to those big conference games. But then there’s the few that contemplate about January. I’ll admit, I do it all the time.
Especially since I root for a franchise who hasn’t been victorious in a bowl game since 2006, whereas up until that, they had been victorious in five consecutively. But I still stand faithfully next to them, and the Large Ten Conference.
So what may happen in the non-BCS bowls? I have no inkling, I’ll work that out at some point this week or next. But regarding the BCS Bowl Games, here’s what I think is going to come to pass, and how it could be prevented from going down.
ROSE BOWL presented by Citi Financial (Pasadena, California) Ohio State Buckeyes vs (at) Southern California Trojans This contest might simply be averted. I forecast USC to suffer defeat one game in the course of the season, as they usually do.
If they get past the Buckeyes on September 12, then they’ll be okay. But look out for the Cal Bears. I still expect S.C. will win the Pac-ten, lately becoming known as the “Pac-1.” The Buckeyes play the men of troy at home in September, where they’d much rather be than Pasadena, mere miles from the Los Angeles Coliseum. But look out for that November 7 matchup, in Pleased Valley.
Needless to say, the last time the Bucks traveled there, they blew out the Lions 37-17. But they need a victory, particularly if they lose to USC in September. If they might loss the Trojans in September, and the Lions in November, they could be headed for the National Championship. And the same goes for USC.
Tostitos FIESTA BOWL Oklahoma Sooners vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish One occurrence might put a stop to this contest, October 17. That represents the time of the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and UT-Austin.
The winner of that, which I definitely predict to be Texas, should more or less easily make it to to the National Championship. Nevertheless.. watch out for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Notre Dame’s revisit to stardom should start hitting big strides this year.
They have a very qualified franchise, and a #13 preseason ranking. Assuming they suffer defeat to USC, but thrash their 84 other rivals (haha), they should secure a nice place in the BCS at year’s end.
BCS National Title Game presented by Citi financial (Pasadena, Ca) University of Florida vs the Longhorns The Florida Gators. Almost everyone chooses them to make it to Pasadena on January 7th, led by one of the supreme athletes of our time, Tim Tebow. They have several tribulations in the course of the season.. but everyone is anticipating their October ten showdown, at LSU. That and the Florida-Georgia matchup on Halloween are the largest difficulties for the Gators, in addition to whomever they face in the SEC Title.
